Gaevskii is the oldest pharmacy (apteka) in the city, opened in 1878 by Anton Gayevskii. At first the drugstore was located on the street of Tiraspol, 16. Then in 1882 Gayevskii partnered with pharmacist A. Piskorskiy and the drugstore was moved to 33 Deribasovskaya. In 1898 it was moved to 21 Sadovaya.[1]

Today the window has a 19th century doctor's equipment and pharmaceutical instruments. Inside the pharmacy often has an old, unpleasant smell about it.

At the turn of the century next to the pharmacy was Cafe Liebmann (кафе Лиебманн), one of the most popular meeting places in Odessa. The cafe was named after its founder, Bernhard Liebmann (Бернхард Лиебманн). It was particularly popular with Odessa's art community. Customers could drink good coffee, eat freshly baked bread and the best cake and pies in Odessa.[2]
