Arabskaya Kuhnya
| Арабская Кухня (Arab kitchen)
| ||
| Arabskaya Kuhnya has authentic Arab food and is popular with the small Arab population. Food is inexpensive and delicious. | ||
Baskin Robbins
| Баскин Роббинс
| ||
| Though Ukraine has some of the best ice cream in the world, if you are craving American lower fat (and less taste) ice cream Baskin Robins beckons. It's fairly expensive ice cream, but it does indeed have 31 flavors (though sadly never Chocolate Peanut Butter). | ||
Baffalo 99
| |
| баффало 99 /Buffalo 99 Sports cafe
With the traditional sports bar interior of televisions, posters, jerseys, and sports paraphernalia, this is a favorite ex pat hang out. Though fairly expensive, the menu is also reminiscent of American sports theme restaurants and includes old favorites such as nachos, hamburgers, and spicy buffalo wings. Although the food is good, the true star is the brownie sundae, which is simply irresistible. Strictly for the ladies, the women's bathroom, labeled "Stefi Graff," features a cartoon that is also worth a glance. |
Hit Club
| |
| Hit Club
Formerly the Dejavu (Lya mer) You know the atmosphere of this roadhouse style restaurant will be lively and unique when first walking into this restaurant. Dozens of telephone receivers dangle from the roof and a large plastic shark greets you. This funky interior also has motorcycles, old planes and helicopters. A unique music stage is elevated and behind the main bar. In addition to Ukrainian and European food, the restaurant has barbequed specialties. |
Dva Karla
| Два Карла
| ||
| If you're looking for good shashlik or shishkabab, this is the place to go. Dva Karla is one of the few places where you can choose chicken, pork, or lamb for most meat dishes. The portions are huge and great value, though it is probably not the best destination for vegetarians. The atmosphere is cozy and surprisingly bright for a basement. During the summer the shaded outside seating is well placed for people watching. | ||
Estrellita
| Recommended
| ||
| 100 Meters from the Potomkin Steps, Estrellita is far and away the best Mexican/Tex Mex restaurant in town if not in the country. Their salads, soups, burritos, and creative main dishes are all excellent and the service is great. Soups, salads, quesadillas, and burritos cost 25 to 35 Hryvnia. The owner's nationality is revealed by an excellent American style breakfast menu which is widely known by ex pats as the best in Odessa and includes real maple syrup. Enjoy genuine margaritas, or maybe one of the wide selection of tequilas, local & imported beers, Georgian wines, or Cuban cigars from their full service bar. Estrellita is open 24 hours a day and there is live music most evenings. Owned by American ex pat Michael McDermott.1 | ||
Fat Mozes
| Fat Moses
Location: Center
| ||
| This is a popular restaurant with Odessites. Reservations are Recommended, especially on the weekends. The restaurant has many antiques on the wooden walls and a relaxing atmosphere. Service is usually good. Try the Chicken sandwich or Greek Salad, both for less than 20 Hr. | ||
Flamingo
| Фламинго
| ||
| Two-level small restaurant. Specialty is lobster. | ||
Garu Paru
| | ||
| Жарю Парю
"Fry Steam" in Russian, offers Домашняя (home cooking). There are several locations through out Odessa. Garu Paru's low priced menu and large variety of menu items, makes Garu Paru one of the best deals in Odessa.
| ||
Hong Kong
| |
| Гонконг
Hong Kong in Russian. Just off of Deribasovskaya, Hong Kong is one of the most authentic and affordable Chinese restaurants in the center of Odessa. Surprisingly, their tofu dishes are superb. The sweet and sour soup is also very good, though not quite what one might expect. |
Greenwich Cafe
| | ||
| Гринвич кафе
| ||
| This beautiful restaurant goes to great lengths to look exactly like a wealthy English study, complete with a red English telephone booth outside. (Although the illusion of being in England is slightly damaged when a visitor realizes it is a Ukrainian UTEL phone inside). | ||
Hutorok
| |
| Хуторок
The restaurant is built in a log cabin style on the foundations of a former fortress just above Lanzheron Beach. It has a balcony overlooking the sea and fire place with Ukrainian decor throughout the restaurant. Live music nightly featuring professional jazz, folk & pop artists. There are several themed private rooms, including the "Hunter's Room", the "Forge", or the "Bourgeoisie Room". |
Irish Pub
|
More photos, click here. | ||
| Ирландский Паб (Irish Pub, Mick O'Neil's)
| ||
| Despite the newly built glass facade, the Irish Bar, as it is locally known, boasts a traditional pub interior. The dark wood-paneled walls are lined with Guinness and Obolon advertisements, there's a wide-screen television viewable from the balcony and the bar below, a prominently placed billiards table, a juke-box blaring the latest pop hits during the day, and a live band jamming under the staircase during the evenings. Though the atmosphere appears traditionally Irish, a recent Irish World Cup match, though broadcast live, was a disappointingly quiet affair. As for the food, an encyclopedic menu offers everything from chicken curry to corn on the cob to fish 'n chips. While most of the main dishes are expensive, the hamburgers and sandwiches are authentic and, at 14-19 Hryvnia, very affordable. At the Irish Pub, even the domestic beers are more expensive than usual, but it does offer the widest selection of beer and beverage imports. The Irish Bar offers coupons for free admission to the club Amsterdam on the night of your meal. | ||
Kampay
| Кампай (Sushi Kiosk)
| ||
| During the summer, the amount of seating in this tiny café doubles to about eight tables. Though the selection is not as wide as it is in Odessa's newest sushi restaurant, Kyoto, it is certainly the most affordable. Some say it is the best sushi in town. Have a seat and watch the sushi chef make your meal, or watch the teen-agers congregate outside of the radio station just across the pavement. Either way, you are in for a treat. | ||
Klarabara
| | ||
| Кларабара
| ||
| Tucked in a corner of Gor-saud, Klarabara offers an interesting European and nouveau-Ukrainian menu with specials that change regularly. The soups and desserts are especially good. During the spring and summer, terrace seating affords a good view of Gor-saud and is a pleasant stop for coffee or drinks. The restaurant also doubles as an art gallery, usually featuring one or two local artists' works for sale. | ||
Kobe
| More pictures, click here. | ||
| Кобе
| ||
| Excellent Japanese food. The cook prepares the food in front of the guests. | ||
Kumanets
| | ||
| Куманець
| ||
| Walking into Kumanets is like entering a Ukrainian Disney World - without the rides and lines. Despite an effusion of stuffed chickens, the traditional atmosphere is very friendly and the service excellent. The food is fantastic, fairly inexpensive, and comes in mountainous portions. The red and green borsht come in bowls big enough to swim in and are probably the best available outside a Ukrainian kitchen. Soups, vareniky (dumplings), and diruny (potato pancakes) are all wonderful and cost around 10- 15 Hryvnia. Reservations are Recommended for weekend nights. | ||
Kyoto
| Киото
| ||
| A colorful cloth fish differentiates the modest entrance of Kyoto from its more lavish neighbor, Troitsky Supermarket. This newly opened sushi bar offers a wide variety of sushi and some other Japanese dishes. The prices are not cheap, but not as extreme as most sushi restaurants in Ukraine. | ||
Londonskaya
| Лондонская
| ||
| Located in the Londonskaya hotel. This restaurant is advertised as the only certified deluxe restaurant in Odessa, which includes being certified in safety. Beautiful courtyard. Fine dining. | ||
Mario's Pizzeria
| |
| Марио
Just down the street from Soborna Park, this is a good family Italian restaurant with good pizza and a limited selection of pasta dishes. Mario's claim to fame is that they deliver pizza and soda to locations within the center. They also make a very good cold coffee cappuccino. |
McDonalds
| | ||
| Макдоналдс
| ||
| The Deribasovskaya Mcdonalds restroom requires a code, see Toilets. | ||
Mikage
| Микаге
| ||
| Excellent Seafood in a beautiful restaurant. It has the same owners as the Kobe restaurant. The prices are more expensive than the Kampay sushi kiosk but the atmosphere, of course, is much better. | ||
Mozart
| | ||
| Моцарт
| ||
| Located in the Mozart hotel, the food usually takes long to cook but is excellent. Vegetarian meals are available. | ||
Pan Pizza
| Пан Пицца
| ||
| The McDonald's of Ukrainian Pizza. Some say you cannot walk more than five minutes in Odessa without passing a Pan Pizza. There are at least three on the pedestrian part of Deribasovskaya alone, as well as a small fleet in the beach district of Arkadia. There is also a branch conveniently near the main train station on the corner of Rishelevskaya and Mala Arnautskaya. The pizza, much like the service, is very quick, efficient, and consistent. Like McDonald's, you give up taste for consistency, and unfortunately the pizza is consistently tasteless. For better and cheaper pizza, we recommend Chelentano instead. | ||
Panorama
Панорама
| |||
| Panorama is a very apt title for this restaurant. Located on the upper floor of Kempinski hotel, every tourist should visit this restaurant at least once (even if only to buy 15 Hryvnia coffee) to see breathtaking views of the entire bay and a birds eye view of the Primorsky stairs. There is outside seating on both sides of the restaurant. Recommended not for the over-priced food, the most expensive in the city, but for the excellent service, coffee, and especially the view. | |||
Peivnaya Akademia
| Пивная Академия Bunina 24 (Бунина 24) |
Pizzeria Pulcinella
| Пулсинелла пиццерия
| ||
| The tiled decor of this restaurant is refreshingly light and airy. Though pizza is the specialty, Pulcinella also boasts a wide variety of pasta dishes, for around 25 Hryvnia, and main dishes for a little more. Try the delicious the Margarita-3. Some passionately argue that Pulcinella pizza is the best in town, while others are equally adamant about Zara's pizza. Both are worth a try. Beverages are a little more expensive than other restaurants and are mostly imported. For an extra Hryvnia for the box, you can order pizza to go. | ||
Randevo
| Рандеву
| ||
| Interesting themed two story restaurant. A waiter stands outside with lighted drinks on a serving plate. | ||
Saint Nicholas
| Святой Николай
| ||
| This basement restaurant is a hidden treasure that most tourists never see. The theme of the restaurant is middle ages. A large fireplace stands at one side of the restaurant. The chairs and tables are similar to what you would find in a king's castle. There are two luxuriously decorated private rooms for private parties and conferences. The food is excellent though the service sometimes tends to be "Soviet". We recommend the Captain Morgan's chicken and mushrooms. | ||
Shalimar
|
| ||
Steak House
| |
| Стейк хаус
Located right in the center of the center of Odessa, Steakhouse is a well-known and well-liked establishment. With English menus and rather expensive prices, it caters mostly to the expatriate and wealthy Ukrainian crowd. The main dishes are creative and tasty and the breakfast menu and buffet with free "American coffee" are also very good. The most unique trademark of Steakhouse is the wooden box, containing four kinds of sugar, chocolate, and cardamom seeds, that accompanies all coffee orders. Get a table near the windows and enjoy an afternoon cocktail or coffee and people-watch on Odessa's main thoroughfare. |
Ta Odessa
| | ||
| Та Одесса Location: Center
| ||
| This restaurant has the most unique feature of all restaurants in Odessa. You can dine above a real crocodile below you, under a Plexiglas floor. The restaurant also is the most private. The restaurant is not set up like a traditional restaurant. Instead there are several private rooms off of a long hallway. Each room has a theme, including a Ukrainian theme room. | ||
Taj Mahal
| Тадж Махал
| ||
| Walls of mirrors greet you at the bottom of the gigantic steps down from the street. However, if you do not mind watching yourself - and everyone else in the restaurant - eat, this is a good, inexpensive Indian option. Though the food and the service can be inconsistent, the Indian dishes are good, but not too spicy. This is a good place for a quick, casual meal, but not for a special occasion. | ||
Top Sandwich
| Топ Сандвич
| ||
| An excellent middle-eastern sandwich shop. All three of these restaurants are fast, clean, and very inexpensive. The specialty is chicken shaurma or shashlik and a sandwich and a beverage costs less than 15 Hryvnia. Humus with vegetables and lavash (a thin bread wrap) is available at either the Priaprazhenskaya or train station branches, while falafel is usually available only at the train station kiosk. The chicken fajita, available at all three locations is excellent. The sandwiches tend to be a little different from restaurant to restaurant. Their freshly squeezed orange or apple juices are also extremely refreshing. Top Sandwich does take-out and is an excellent budget meal. | ||
Ujnaya Palmeera
| Южная Пальмира
| ||
| Built in 1905, Ujnaya Palmeera (or Southern Palmyra) is the oldest building in Arcadia. This building has a beautiful luxuriant interior, and the food and service is superb. | ||
Ukranska Lasunka
| | ||
| Укранска Ласунка
| ||
| Ukranska Lasunka is richly decorated with traditional Ukrainian items. A large windmill decorates the middle of the restaurant. The food is good but not great, and the service leaves a lot to be desired. If you want good authentic Ukrainian food, we recommend Kumanets. | ||
Zara Pizzara
|
|
| Зара пиццерия
A fierce competitor for the title of "Best Pizza in Odessa," Zara's is one of Odessa's newest restaurants. The atmosphere is very modern and chic, and it boasts the only bathroom with a television in Odessa and probably in Ukraine. Breakfast is served daily beginning at 9 am with American style coffee or Italian espresso, toast & eggs plus other special dishes. The pastas, pizza, and main dishes are all consistently excellent and creative. While the main dishes can be relatively expensive, the pizza and pasta cost around 20-30 Hryvnia. If you're feeling particularly self-indulgent, try the cheesecake. The restaurant also has a salad bar. The wine and beer is mostly imported and expensive, but the table wine is affordable and definitely worth trying. It is a light red wine made in an Odessa suburb from local grapes. It has a cool, fruity, and surprisingly refreshing taste. |
Zeleny
|
| ||
| "Green" in Russian. Zeloni Pizza has decent, inexpensive pizza with a lot of toppings. The restaurant a large screen television and outdoor seating next to the ivy in the summer. | ||
