During the Soviet Union this was seized by the state and converted into a planetarium. Since 2000, the building has been in the process of being remodeled. Currently, it is the largest Cathedral in Odessa.

Here, in 1878 the participants of the revolutionary organisation "Narodnaya Volya" (Народная Воля) were killed:

S.F. Chubarov, D.A. Lisogub, I.Y. Davidenko, V.O. Maa On November 25 (December 8) 1905, the plenary meeting of the local Council of the Working Deputies was held here.
