This theater is the youngest in Odessa, built in 1981. Architect G. Topus and engineer A. Lyubovsky designed it.

This building was built in an ultramodern style, with wide panes of glass and aluminum. It is built with limestone, red marble, black granite, and travertine (a light-colored porous calcite which forms stalactites and stalagmites). Inside, numerous chandeliers reflect on the black granite floor. Twin stairs lead to the upper foyer.

The central decoration is a vast 180 square meter (650 square meter) gobelin (A woven Parisian tapestry with rich pictorial design) depicting theatrical scenes. The theater seats 1,300 people.

The musical Comedy Theater Company was formed in 1946 in Lviv. In 1953 the Odessa Drama Soviet Army Theatre was transferred to Lviv and the Lviv Theatre of Musical Comedy was placed in Odessa.
