Carousel collapse kills two, injures nine outside Odessa
May 23 2005, 14:57 (AP) - A carousel collapse in an amusement park just outside the southern Ukrainian port of Odessa killed two people and injured nine others, the Ministry for Emergency Situations said May 23. Three people were hospitalized with multiple fractures and six others suffered slight injuries when the carousel, with more than 12 people on it, collapsed and crashed to the ground May 22. Authorities have opened an investigation, the ministry said. Accidents are frequent in Ukraine's poorly maintained amusement parks, some of which have equipment dating to the Soviet era. Earlier this month, another carrousel collapse in the western city of Ternopil killed a woman and injured another four people.
