Decree of the USSR
Both squares have this inscription written in gold:
- Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR, awarding the city of Odessa with the Lenin Order and Golden Star Medal.
- For the outstanding services to Motherland, courage and heroism demonstrated by the working people of Odessa fighting for their freedom with Nazi-fascist invaders, and to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, award the city of Odessa with Order of Lenin and Golden Star Medal.
